Alone With Nature :: essays research papers

Alone with Nature Arriving at the lusciously dense forest at daybreak, you gaze at the fresh dew delicately dangling on the foliage. You stroll through the winding dirt trails towards the steady flowing water while the birds proudly recite their early morning songs. Reaching the free flowing stream you bend down and see your clear reflection in front of the orange-yellow sky. Goosebumps rise along your arms as the streams icy depths run through your fingers. The cleansing water quickly refreshes your face, quickly washing away your anxieties and frustrations of a usual hectic life. Beyond the stream is a meadow filled with a variety of flowers. Taking a stroll through the meadow is like walking through a rainbow. The shades of the velvety ornamented flower petals vary from scarlet, to baby blue. Despite the similarities in color, nothing else seems to be the same- they all tower 2 or 3 feet above the dark, rich soil. They sway playfully in unison with the warm caressing breeze, carefully merging the two scents into one fresh, clean fragrance.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  You pry yourself away from the immense meadow, still filled with many unexplored treasures and turn back into the foliage covered depths of the forest. The sun is comfortably placed in front of the cotton candy clouds, in the midst of the soft blue sky. The occasional bird soars through in a last minuet attempt to catch a worm so it may feed the yearning mouths of it's young. The rough dirt trail ends and you are brought to the base of a rock. Your feet reach for the unfamiliar footholds of the high rocky promontory, anxiously scrambling up the streaky pinkish rock ready to explore any new treasures that lie beyond you. Once on top, you gaze down and see it all- the crystal clear stream brilliantly

For Which of the Boys Essay

The boy that I felt the most sympathy for in The History Boys would have to be Posner. The portrayal of his character compared to that of the other boys is entirely different. Throughout the play, Posner is shown to be an outsider; â€Å"too young† to understand most things, and even to be included in Hector’s inappropriate behaviour. It is evident from the start that Posner has feelings towards Dakin, however Dakin’s behaviour towards Posner is far from romantic, hence we can sense that he doesn’t return the romantic feelings that Posner so desperately desires. This immediately creates sympathy for him, as it shows that he has no hope of happiness with the person whom he clearly loves. As the play progresses and develops, we can see that Posner is confused about his sexuality and is tormented by the idea that he’ll never fit in anywhere. He confesses his feelings and worries to Irwin who sympathises, however this does nothing to comfort Posner. As the other boys begin to change their attitudes towards life and learning, Posner seems to remain the same and spend more time with Hector. This could be viewed as very odd behaviour, as the other boys seem keen to avoid any time alone with Hector due to his ephebophilia. This, again, highlights the fact that Posner is extremely lonely and confused, therefore is willing to seek comfort with even the most inappropriate of people. When the disastrous event of the motorcycle accident happens at the end of the play, we are given an insight into just how much it affected the boys in years to come. While it seems that the others have moved on in life, Posner is described to have â€Å"periodic breakdowns† and to have been the only one that â€Å"truly took everything to heart†. This proves that Posner was really affected by those particular years of his life, despite the fact that he was never directly targeted by Hector. Overall, Posner is presented as a confused, lonely character which generates large amounts of sympathy from the audience.

Volunteering Admission Essays

From our experiences, we probably have walked past individuals lying on the streets or know of a poor family struggling to make ends meet in this current economy. Media on the other hand always report on needy people who have been struck by natural calamities or we may have come across a highly polluted river or depleted forest. For their protection, all these factors need our concerns and resources. We may lack the material things but offering our time to volunteer is a valuable resource that comes from within our hearts and the need to help those who are unable. â€Å"We make a living by what we do, but we make a life by what we give.† Winston Churchill. From the beginning, I have always had interest in helping the needy but since I am still in school, the only way I can help them is through volunteering. My greatest concern is people who are less privileged and those suffering. I always go to hospitals to motivate the sick and give them strength and hope, visiting the elderly homes to encourage the old and give them a sense of meaning to their world. Changing lives is my dream and volunteering gives me an opportunity to do so. Meeting various individuals in various stages of lives and through interaction inspires me a lot giving me the strength and motivation to continue with the work. My big heart, I think borrowed a leaf from my grandparents who are doctors and they are my role models. I have always envied their work experience and their heart of helping patients. Generally, the needy have nothing to pay for our generosity but with their appreciations I feel contented and motivated for they have found a shoulder to lean on. With this, I also am more inspired and committed to my services, which I think is the driving force in me towards attaining my career. With constant interaction with the old, one gets new ideas and techniques on how to face live since through their experiences they have seen and learn a lot. Volunteering activities is mostly streamlined by nongovernmental organizations and in most cases, you find new friends from the diverse society with the same or different interest, who at long run can help you secure a job in future. Volunteering is an art that not only requires time, but also commitment and patience.
